Songs for Men to Chant - Poetry

Poetry inspired by the writers and thinkers of the men's movement and my own personal journey, enjoy

All hail the shining ones

All hail the shining ones,

there's strength in our arms

as we've carried fear.

All hail the shining ones,
there's love in our eyes

as we've seen rejection.

All hail the shining ones,

there's hope in our hearts

as we've faced the shadows.

All hail the shining ones,

we are whole

as I'm one of us

All hail!

The Rain of Blessings

Just as

Brooks babble to streams

Streams murmur to rivers

Rivers flow to the sea

So the

Blessings of rain may fall

So should

Sons smile to fathers

Fathers bow to grandfathers

Grandfathers talk to elders

So the

Rain of blessings may fall

Like Hercules in his crib

I’ve heard their slithering

I’ve felt their tongues in the air.

Like Hercules in his crib

I face the two snakes sent to stop my growth.

Snakes that stop me in my tracks

Snakes that have wounded me with their poison,

Snakes I name anger and sadness,

Snakes that would kill.

If I’m a good boy will they go in peace?

If I stay small will they smile?

I foolishly seek ways to make amends

I unwisely wonder what crimes demand such retribution,

Is it time to fight or time to die?

Is it time to whimper or time to roar?

Like Hercules in his crib

Its time to face the two snakes sent to stop my growth

And shine!

Standing in the Shadows

Standing in the shadows

I’m called by the light.

Light dancing amongst the leaves.

Standing in the shadows

I’m seduced by the light

Light caressing my lover’s face

Standing in the shadows

I’m enchanted by the light

Light warming my son’s face.

Standing in the shadows

I’m entranced by the light

Light giving me hope.

Standing in the shadows

I’m challenged by the light

Light shining on my brothers’ faces.

Will I answer?
